Everyone has heard of vitamins and minerals. Everyone knows that they are nutrients. But these are not all the nutrients. There are six classes of nutrients that include:
- The vitamins
- The minerals
- The fats
- The carbohydrates.
We can get energy from food that contains three different compounds: carbohydrates, proteins and fats. We can also get energy from alcoholBut its regular consumption wreaks havoc on normal energy metabolic processes and increases the potential for dehydration. Many people attribute to vitamins and minerals properties that provide energy, they are not a source of energy. However, they are necessary to boost energy from the carbohydrates, proteins and fats that are consumed.
Athletes who drastically reduce their intake of food and they think there will be no problems because they are taking their vitamins they are wrong. Without a source of energy, vitamins don't have much to do. Water is a nutrient that literally ties everything together. This circulates the other nutrients to the tissues where they are used and removes the by-products of this use from the tissues.
Water is also a key ingredient for maintaining body temperature during high intensity physical activity.
